Wilpattu Safari Camping Experience 4 Nights 5 Days

Our four-night Wilpattu safari camping experience gives wildlife enthusiasts, birdwatchers and photographers time to explore the park in depth. With eight guided game drives over five days, you can devote different safaris to different interests, revisit promising areas and experience Wilpattu in both morning and evening light.

Wilpattu’s forest, open ground and natural water bodies create varied settings for watching and photographing wildlife. One drive might be spent taking time with birds; another could focus on looking for leopards, sloth bears or elephants. For photographers, the longer stay offers repeated opportunities to observe behaviour, respond to changing light and work with whatever unfolds in front of the vehicle.

Your guide can discuss your wildlife and photography priorities with you and plan each drive around the conditions in the park, within the arrangements of your safari. Sightings cannot be guaranteed, but eight drives give you more time to explore without trying to cover every interest at once.

Between safaris, return to Wilpattu Safari Camp for meals and time to rest. The camp is situated just outside the national park boundary beside the park gate.

Day 01: Arrive and begin exploring

• 12 noon — Meet our crew at the Wilpattu National Park entrance. We will take you the short distance to Wilpattu Safari Camp, just outside the park boundary.
• Lunch at camp before your first drive.
• Evening guided game drive. Explore Wilpattu with your guide and begin to get a feel for its landscapes and wildlife. Discuss the species and photographic opportunities you would most like to focus on during your stay.
• Dinner and overnight stay at camp.

Day 02: Birds and mammals

• Early morning guided game drive. The morning light offers an opportunity to spend time observing and photographing birds, with stops guided by the activity you find.
• Return to camp for breakfast and time at leisure.
• Evening guided game drive. Shift your attention towards larger mammals, exploring suitable areas for elephants, leopards and other wildlife.
• Dinner and overnight stay at camp.

Day 03: Explore different settings

• Early morning guided game drive. Explore another part of Wilpattu or revisit an area where your guide has observed activity. You may choose to focus on birds, sloth bears or other wildlife according to conditions.
• Return to camp for breakfast and time at leisure.
• Evening guided game drive. Use the changing afternoon light to watch for wildlife and photograph the park’s varied landscapes.
• Dinner and overnight stay at camp.

Day 04: Follow your strongest interests

• Early morning guided game drive. By now, you and your guide will have a clearer sense of where you would like to spend more time. Focus on a species, habitat or photographic opportunity that has captured your interest.
• Return to camp for breakfast and time at leisure.
• Evening guided game drive. Your seventh safari offers another chance to explore in softer light and look for the mammals and birds that make Wilpattu so rewarding.
• Dinner and overnight stay at camp.

Day 05: Final safari and departure

• Breakfast at camp.
• Morning guided game drive. Make the most of your final drive by revisiting an area of interest or following your guide’s advice on current wildlife activity.
• Return to camp, then transfer to the park gate for checkout.

Cancellation Policy

• Cancelled by you, with a notice coming to us less than 45 days prior to arrival date - There will be no refund for you.
• Cancelled by you, with a notice coming to us more than 45 days prior to arrival date - 80% of the total value will be refunded to you.
• No show - There will be no refund for you.
• None refundable fee - 20% of the total value
